I don’t have health insurance, and I’ve used up Med Pay. Now what?

If you have used your Med Pay benefits and do not have any other health insurance, you may be concerned that you cannot afford treatment for your injury. First, ask your health care provider if they have free care or reduced prices for people without insurance. There may be an application form that you can request from your provider, especially if it is a larger health care system. You can also use Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providers; they are required to provide care on a sliding scale basis. The providers usually have “Health Center” in their name, such as “Penobscot Community Health Center” in Penobscot County Maine. The link below has a list of FQHC providers in Maine.
